About Arnold Chandler

Arnold_ChandlerArnold L. Chandler is an advocate, researcher, trainer and Internet strategist who for more than 8 years has helped nonprofits and foundations advance programs and policies focused on social and economic equity.  Recently, he was a Research Analyst working with a team to reform the Oakland Police Department as part of a federal lawsuit settled in 2001. A researcher and policy strategist at PolicyLink for over five years, Chandler has also authored several important policy analyses and studies in the social justice field as well as advised several nonprofit organizations on the use of Internet tools for supporting advocacy and social change efforts.  He also trains the staff of nonprofit organizations in how to conduct research using cutting-edge Internet tools and techniques. His areas of substantive research include: Electronic advocacy and the digital empowerment of grassroots and advocacy organizations; Infrastructure inequity in unincorporated communities in California; Economic and Community Development; Affordable Housing; Digital Divide and Public Policy; Community-Centered Policing; Online Youth Engagement; Leadership Development; Social Network Analysis and Network-Building; and, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for policy change. Chandler has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a M.S. in Information Systems and Web Strategy. He lives in Oakland, California with his wife Janet.
